On May 18, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and its Office of Civil Rights released the Nondiscrimination in Health Programs andActivities Final Rule. According to HHS, under the Rule, individuals are protected from discrimination in health coverage and care on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, and sex, including discrimination based on pregnancy, gender identity, and sex stereotyping.
